Writing in his Club's Newsletter, after being a guest at our 2002 "Proserpine Turnout", a notable turner stated.
Proserpine Woodturners:- Ten members, no constitution, no committee, no money, and no understanding of what is impossible.
He was no doubt impressed with the centrepiece of our annual "Turnout", which was an 8foot 6inch wide, by 2foot 6inch deep laminated bowl, mounted on a specially built lathe. The "Big Bowl", still mounted on it's huge lathe, is housed in the local Museum, and is certainly worthy of a visit.
The Group gets together on the last Sunday of each month at the workshop of the rostered member.
Proserpine is located in a sugar growing area, surrounded by tropical rainforests, and is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. With beautiful inland timbers available just "over the range", we are indeed in a woodturners paradise.
